It is difficult to choose just one "best" Northworst story, but last summer on a return flight from Kuwait-Amsterdam-Mnpls had everything this airline is famous for: lost reservations, lost luggage, and rude employees handling it all. My sister and her 2 children (7 and 2 years old) already had RT tickets. I bought a one-way to fly home with them on the same flight. When we arrived at the airport in Kuwait, my sister was informed that the 2 year old did not have a seat (full flight) to Amsterdam. That he would have to travel the 8 hour flight on her lap. I offered to give up my seat (could not: security). We tried to upgrade to first class. No luck and no sympathy. We were assured that the problem would be taken care of in Amsterdam--that my nephew would have a seat. We had a 36 hour layover in Amsterdam, with 2 children and no luggage. (shipped on--to New Mexico it turned out. But that was later) When we finally were sent on to Minnpls, we were told that my 7 year old nephews reservation had been lost! AND that the 2 year old was still an "infant" with no seat. The (American) Northwest employee looked my sister in the eye and said that he, the 7 year old, "could travel on the next flight out". I am not making this up! She thought we would leave a 7 year old in Amsterdam??!!! We were finally given 3 seats for the 4 of us, none together, every employee yelling at us to just "take our seats" as we asked for help. I finally spoke to my fellow passengers, who were kind enough to switch seats around with us, giving the two boys and my sister a seat. After we took off, I stood in the aisle across the Atlantic! whild the flight attendants repeatedly told me to get out of their way. No luggage when we got to Mnnpls. My 2 year old nephew's reservation was forever lost and my sister had to buy a one-way return ticket to get him home.
